Sukhna rivers is one of the major rivers in the district of Aurangabad. Although in recent years the river had been heavily polluted due to the effluent discharge from the chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Shendra, MIDC area. One of the major companies, not only responsible for the most effluent discharge but also cause groundwater contamination in the river. Another major factor polluting the river was the misuse of local people living in the vicinity. The river had become a garbage dumping means and cattle from the nearby areas further added to the pollution.
In April 2012 Eco Needs Foundation launched a river conservation program to clean the river with the help of the local community. For about three years the foundation worked on the conservation project along with the locals and brought awareness about river pollution.
